Our open letter to all Greek MEPs urging them to reject the EU's ChatControl proposal.

Dear Representatives,
We are writing to you on behalf of Serendipiware, a small
Greek software startup committed to privacy and digital security. We
are addressing you, as Greek representatives in the European
Parliament, to express our deep concerns regarding the proposed
“Chat Control” legislation (CSAM Regulation), which is currently
under discussion in the European Union.
Our main concerns are:
- Damage to the EU digital economy: This proposal would discourage innovation and push tech companies, including small startups like ours, to relocate outside the EU. Greece is working hard to grow its digital sector, policies like this undermine those efforts and risk a brain drain of young talent.
- Breaking encryption weakens security: End-to-end encryption protects Greek citizens, businesses, and public institutions from cybercriminals and foreign interference. Introducing backdoors would not only endanger privacy but also our national resilience against growing cyber threats.
- Ineffective child protection: Experts in both technology and child safety have warned that this approach will flood investigators with false reports, while determined offenders simply migrate to hidden channels. This does not make children safer, it only creates mass surveillance of the innocent.
We respectfully urge you to:
- Oppose any proposal that mandates indiscriminate scanning of private communications.
- Protect end-to-end encryption as a cornerstone of digital security.
- Support targeted, evidence-based strategies for child protection.
- Ensure that democratic oversight and fundamental rights remain at the heart of EU policymaking. We believe Greece has the opportunity to stand on the right side of history by defending democracy, innovation, and the privacy of its citizens. The current proposal does not achieve that balance.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
Sincerely,
Serendipiware
